Alhamdulillah Berjumpa kembali. Thank you very much telah berkenan singgah di blog kami.

Kali ini penulis ingin menyajikan materi pelajaran bahasa Inggris kelas 7 CHAPTER 5 (KD. 3.5-4.5) yaitu  tentang TELLING THE QUALITIES OF PEOPLE, ANIMALS AND THINGS (Memberitahukan kualitas orang, hewan dan benda).

Well .................

Dalam sajian ini harapan penulis yang hendak dicapai setelah memahami adalah mampu untuk menanya dan memberi informasi terkait dengan kualitas orang, hewan dan benda (Be able to ask for and give information related to the qualities of people, animals and things, in order to identify, to criticize or to praise them.)

Sebelumnya mari kita amati beberapa contoh kalimat atau ungkapan berikut ini:

Dialog 1

IN THE PARK

Siti    : This park is shady and the flowers are colourful. I like this park. 

Lina  : I do, too. This is a wonderful park. 

Edo   : Look! There are butterflies. 

Dayu : They’re pretty. 

Beni  : There are garbage cans, too. We can keep this park clean. 

Udin : I like studying here. The weather is nice. The park is beautiful. And, it’s a beautiful day!

Dialog 2

AT THE ZOO

Siti    : Look at the giraffes. They have curly eyelashes. 

Lina  : Yes, they do. Their eyelashes are adorable. 

Beni  : And look at the zebras. They have black and white stripes on their bodies. 

Udin : Guys, do you know that each zebra has different pattern? 

Edo   : They do? That’s very interesting! 

Dayu : Look at the elephants. They are huge! 

Udin : Yes, they are. And look at the tigers. They have sharp teeth. 

Siti    : And they have powerful legs.

Teks 1

Sinta never looks sad. She likes to make people smile. She is cheerful and funny girl.

Teks 2

Wati is always nervous and quiet whenever  she meets someone. She also has stage fright. She is shy girl.

PENJELASAN

Kata-kata yang tertulis miring dengan warna merah diatas adalah bentuk dari kata sifat (ADJECTIVES) dan merupakan terdapat benda yang disifati (NOUN PHRASE).

Adjective is the word used to describe a noun or pronoun which can be a person, a place, an animal, an object or an abstract concept (thing).

(Kata sifat adalah kata yang digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan sebuah benda atau kata ganti orang yang bisa berupa orang, tempat, hewan, benda atau benda astrak).

Noun Phrase is a group of words that consists of a noun and one or more adjectives.

(Noun Phrase adalah sebuah kelompok kata yang terdiri dari sebuah benda dan sebuah kata sifat atau lebih.)

Contoh : 

-  Beautiful day (= hari yang indah) --> beuatiful : adjective; day : noun

-  Pretty butterflies (= kupu-kupu yang cantik) --> pretty : adjective; butterflies : noun

-  Sharp teeth (= gigi-gigi yang tajam) --> sharp : adjective; teeth : noun

-  Funny girl (=gadis yang lucu) --> funny : adjective; girl : noun

-  Generous boy (=anak yang murah hati) --> generous : adjective; boy : noun

Jika dalam satu benda terdapat lebih dari satu kata sifat, maka urutan adjective nya sebagai berikut : 

NUMBER + SIZE + QUALITY + COLOR + ORIGIN + NOUN

(jumlah)         (ukuran)     (kualitas)           (warna)       (asal)               (benda)

Contoh : 

-  There are two small black plastic bags. (=ada dua tas plastik hitam yang kecil)

    two --> number;  small --> size;  black --> color;  plastic --> origin;  bags --> noun

-  Susi bought a wide beautiful colorful Kerek batik. (=Susi membeli sehelai kain batik Kerek warna warni yang cantik dan lebar)

    a--> number;  wide --> size;  beautiful --> quality;  colorful --> color;  Kerek--> origin;  batik--> noun

-  My uncle is making three big red wood boxes. (=pamanku sedang membuat tiga kita kayu merah dan besar)

    three --> number;  big --> size;  red --> color;  wood --> origin;  boxes --> noun

Nah....setelah kita memahami penggunaan kata sifat dan noun phrase diatas, selanjutnya pahami beberapa contoh dialog berikut ini :

Dialog 1 

Lisa   : Dayu, do you have any pets? 

Dayu : Yes, I do. I have two cats. 

Lisa   : I love cats! What do they look like? 

Dayu : They’re very little. They’re babies, very cute ones. They have grey fur, big eyes, and each of them has a pink nose. 

Lisa   : Wow! I can imagine how cute they are.

Dialog 2

Fatimah : Dayu, do you often go to the traditional market on weekends? 

Cacha     : Yes, I do? 

Fatimah : What is it like? Is it very crowded? 

Cacha     : Yes, it is. You’d better go on weekdays. 

Fatimah : Okay. Thank you. 

Dialog 3

Beni      : Do you know Rani Maharani? 

Farhan : Yes, I do. 

Beni      : What is she like? 

Farhan : She’s very kind and polite. She’s clever, too. She’s very impressive.

PENJELASAN

Untuk menanyakan dan memberikan informasi terkait dengan kualitas orang, hewan atau benda (asking for and giving information related to qualities of people, animal and things), maka kita bisa menggunakan dua jenis yaitu penampilan fisik (physical appearance) dan karakter-perilaku (character - behavior)

1.  PHYSICAL APPEARANCE (Penampilan Fisik) :

       A.   Asking for information on Physical Appearance :

            -  What does he/she/it look like?

            -  What do they look like?

            -  How does he/she/it look like?

            -  How do they look like?

       B.   Giving information on Physical Appearance :

            -  She has beautiful and shiny long hair.

            -  Fahri is a fat boy. He likes eating very much.

            -  The tiger has sharp teeth and powerful legs.

            -  This cat looks like cute, tame and playful.

2.  CHARACTER & BEHAVIOR (Karakter dan Perilaku) :

       A.   Asking for information on Character and Behavior :

            -  What is he/she/it like?

            -  What are they like?

            -  How is he/she/it like?

            -  How are they like?

            -  What kind of persons/animals/things are they?

            -  What kind of person is he/she?

            -  What kind of animal/thing is it?

       B.   Giving information on  Character and Behavior :

            -  She is cheerful and funny girl.

            -  Bagas is helpful and generous boy.

            -  The tiger is a wild animal but the horse is a tame animal.
